Rotary Satellite Club of Dalian Kai Fa Qu Club celebrated the American Thanksgiving Day holiday with over 90 members of the local community at an “Operation Give Back” open-door charity event at Obsidian Waterfront Restaurant in Hong Xing Hai, Kai Fa Qu.
Community members joined together to collect over 150KG of warm coats and blankets to give to the Wanfangdian Foster Village. Wanfangdian is a village of over 50 foster families who have taken in almost 100 special needs children from the Dalian Orphanage.
“As the year begins to close and we celebrate the holidays with family and friends, it’s important to remember those who are not as fortunate living right here in our community. We were happy to be able to ‘give back’ the warm coats and blankets to people in need this winter,” says Kai Fa Qu Chairman Alexander McConnell.
The evening ended with a raffle of goods and services from local businesses and community members. A special thanks to Obsidian Waterfront, Deli Harbor, Show Coffee, Legacy Coffee, Mozart Café and Mom and Kids Café for their generous donations.
The grand prize winner was eight year-old Ella Segev from the Dalian International American School who won a new bicycle donated from the downtown Dalian Rotary Club.
“It was exciting to win a new bike and I am happy to know that we could help in a small way to keep people warm this winter,” said Ella.
